Defining Biochemical Recurrence of Prostate Cancer After Radical Prostatectomy: A Proposal for a Standardized Definition (October 2006)

JCO, August 2006. Scardino et al. argue that a PSA value of "at least 0.4 ng/mL followed by another increase best explained metastatic progression". The analysis controlled for clinical variables and was based on follow-up of 3125 men post-RP. Ten candidate definitions of recurrence were considered among which the 10-year progression-free probability ranged from 63% to 79%.
