Dr. Peter Grimm, D.O.
As
Director of Clinical Research, Dr. Grimm was instrumental in the establishment of the
Seattle Prostate Institute and the shaping of its clinical, educational,
and research activities. Since his involvement in establishing the first
transperineal prostate implantation program in the United States, Dr.
Grimm has devoted considerable effort to bringing about improvements in
both the technical aspects of the implant procedure and the standards of
practice among physicians and other clinical staff providing
implantation services.
On the technical side, Dr. Grimm's creative endeavors have lead to
continuous improvements in the equipment and supplies widely used in
prostate implantation. He was the principal developer of the I-125 Rapid
Strand designed to eliminate movement of seeds inside the prostate and
he has been granted patents for an advanced design of the needles used
in implant procedures, a pubic arch detection tool and improved spacer
to link seeds ( Seed Link). As for raising practice standards, Dr. Grimm
organized SPI's successful and highly regarded clinical education
program and makes himself available to physicians newly trained in
prostate brachytherapy as an OR proctor and consultant. He also created
and is CEO of ProQura, an organization that provides quality assurance,
radiation physics and dosimetry planning services to brachytherapy
centers around the world.
As with the entire SPI medical team, Dr. Grimm has written on various
aspects of prostate implantation for professional journals and other
medical publications. His current research interests include quality
assurance standards, seed migration, the maintenance of potency
following implantation, and the minimization of prostate movement during
the implant procedure.
Dr. Grimm received his medical education at the Chicago College of
Osteopathic Medicine and his graduate training in radiation oncologist
at UCLA.
