Dr. John Blasko

In 1985, he was the first Radiation Oncologist in the U.S. to perform
transrectal ultrasound and template-guided brachytherapy for prostate
cancer. He pioneered and further developed this technique, which today
is a standard of treatment world-wide.
Dr. Blasko has published over 30 articles and book chapters relating to
prostate brachytherapy and is a frequent speaker at professional
conferences in the U. S. and abroad. He is a reviewer for six medical
journals and is co-editor of a recent prostate cancer book for the
public. Dr. Blasko has received numerous awards and commendations
including being the 2002 recipient of the American Brachytherapy Society
Henschke Award for outstanding contributions to the field of
brachytherapy. He also holds the 2004 Gold Key Honor Award from the
University of Maryland for outstanding contributions to medicine. He is
past president of the American Brachytherapy Society and has held
numerous committee and officer positions in national societies.
Dr. Blasko obtained his medical degree at the University of Maryland in
1969 and did postgraduate training at
Maine
Medical
Center,
Portland, Maine. He then served as a U.S. Naval Flight Surgeon until
1973. In 1977, he completed a Radiation Oncology residency at the
University Of
Washington School Of Medicine
in Seattle. He was Professor of Radiation Oncology at the University of
Washington until 1998 when he joined the Seattle Prostate Institute. |
